About the Role
We are looking for a motivated Graduate Geotechnical Engineer to join our team based in Falkirk. This is a fantastic opportunity to launch your career in geotechnical and environmental site investigation, gaining hands-on site experience from day one.
Working primarily in the field, you will support experienced engineers across a variety of site investigation and geotechnical projects, developing your technical skills in a supportive, collaborative environment. You will be mentored and guided as you build towards professional accreditation.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in the planning and implementation of geotechnical site investigations.
Carry out on-site testing and data collection, including trial pitting and soil sampling.
Assist in the preparation of factual and interpretive geotechnical reports.
Contribute to the analysis and interpretation of soil and rock samples.
Liaise with clients, subcontractors and site teams under the guidance of senior engineers.
Represent Aitken Laboratories professionally on site and in client interactions.
Observe all health, safety and environment rules and procedures at all times.
Maintain accurate project records and follow company procedures and industry best practices.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
Essential Requirements:
* Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
* Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites across Scotland and the North of England.
* Enthusiasm for fieldwork and a willingness to work primarily on site.
* Good communication and written skills, with the ability to engage professionally with clients and colleagues.
* Strong attention to detail and a methodical, organised approach to work.
* Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and develop within a professional environment.
Desirable:
* Some understanding of Eurocodes or British Standards relevant to geotechnical engineering.
* Any prior site experience (e.g. through placements, internships or vacation work).
* An interest in working towards professional chartership (e.g. through the Geological Society or ICE).
