A welcome from the Corporate Director of Children and Young People
About the role
North Yorkshire Council recognises a national reputation for excellence in Children’s Services. Ofsted has rated us Outstanding across all areas. We are offering the opportunity to join our highly acclaimed service and help us continue to provide excellent provision as we expand our teams and invest in exciting new roles.
Our Family Assessment and Support Teams work with children, young people and the families who are Children in Need and Child Protection. We have high aspirations for our children and young people and aim to work collaboratively with families and young people, recognising that each child has a network around them which is essential to involve. We provide extensive training and learning opportunities to support our Social Workers in their work with children and families.
The role is varied: we work with families on a short-term basis while completing assessments, and on a longer-term basis through Child and Family Plans and Child Protection Plans. In some cases we may complete pre-proceedings work and issue care proceedings. We work with all young people from birth up to age 18 and have strong links with other agencies externally and with teams in North Yorkshire. The team includes a Team Manager, Practice Supervisors, and dedicated business support to enable Social Workers to spend more time with Children, Young People and their families. We have a well-defined supervision policy with regular group and individual supervision, opportunities to participate in County-wide practice model sessions, appreciative enquiry and conversation cafés about practice with our Principal Social Worker.
