Job title: Hazardous Waste Manager/Senior Site Chemist (Depending on experience) Location: Cardiff Hours: 42.5 hours per week, Monday Friday. Reporting to: Head of Hazardous Waste Services The Role: The successful applicant will line manage a small team of chemists / operators to efficiently receive, process and despatch incoming wastes through a hazardous waste transfer facility. Paramount to the role is that waste is assessed and handled in an approved manner ensuring Health, Safety and Environmental compliance are met whilst demonstrating continuous improvement in productivity and resource management. Working closely with site operational teams to maximise shared resource, the individual will undergo or carry out any training as agreed or requested to strengthen their abilities or the abilities of others and will undertake any project or development work as requested. The Hazardous Waste Manager/Senior Site Chemist will assist the Head of Hazardous Waste Services and SHEQ Manager in meeting their targets, which includes assisting in Duty of Care audits at external disposal sites in addition to ensuring samples are analysed to Company Procedures. This will also include some work at customers premises, which may involve nights away. You will also be required to support the development of written operating procedures and risk assessments in line with our ISO standards. Key aspects of the role: Lead, monitor and control a small team of chemists / operators to carry out all processes within the facility in terms of people and equipment to ensure operational productivities and plant availability. Ensure inputs and outputs meet defined standards e.g. PPC, pre acceptance, onward transfer caveats, whilst driving best practice and continuous improvement in cost control and processing operations. Ensure the team controls material flows through the site to ensure delays and backlogs are minimised. Ensure the team carries out regular stock control and inventory of materials, both waste and consumables held on site. Ensure the team maintains a high level of housekeeping in all areas and ensure any housekeeping activities are carried out in an effective and timely manner. Source and assess potential end recycling / disposal routes and negotiate commercially advantageous potential with hazardous waste supply chain service providers. Ensure security of waste entering the facility and disposal in line with any required internal or customer requirement. Implement and ensure compliance with all company policy, process and procedures. Maintain a positive Health and Safety culture with conscientious near miss/Hazard spotting reporting. As the Hazardous Waste Manager/Senior Site Chemist you will be WAMITAB HAZ Roc Level 4 qualified. You will also be assisting in Site purchasing to company procedure and continually look to improve operational productivity and cost efficiencies. The Job may include other reasonable duties/tasks from time to time and you will be cross trained over transfer station duties. Skills, qualifications and experience: BSc in Chemistry or relevant field IOSH qualified Strong technical knowledge/background Management experience Hands on Person Specification: Experience as a Chemist in a hazardous waste management business or chemical/manufacturing industry essential. Experience of direct interaction with customers / hazardous waste producers. Committed to the development of the sites capability using your initiative to support and develop opportunities for growth. Flexible and Adaptable, with the ability to be team player orientated. Knowledge & understanding of the requirements of working within a time critical processing environment. Analytical with the ability to measure and monitor data. IT literate - Using MS Office. Organised with the ability to simplify complex issues. Good written and verbal Communication skills at all levels. Full, clean UK valid driving license. Willingness to travel within the UK for business meetings and project work at other locations.
