Purpose of the Role
The Paralegal provides essential support to solicitors and legal teams in the preparation, management, and administration of legal matters. The role involves legal research, drafting, document management, client liaison, and case preparation to ensure the efficient delivery of legal services.
Key Responsibilities
* Case Management:
Assist with managing case files, ensuring accurate and timely documentation, filing, and compliance with procedural deadlines.
* Legal Drafting:
Prepare, review, and proofread legal documents such as witness statements, contracts, bundles, and court forms.
* Legal Research:
Conduct thorough legal and factual research to support ongoing cases and provide concise written summaries to solicitors or counsel.
* Client Communication:
Liaise professionally with clients, counsel, courts, and external stakeholders, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
* Document Review & Disclosure:
Assist in reviewing evidence, managing disclosure, and organising trial bundles in compliance with the Civil Procedure Rules or other relevant frameworks.
* Administrative Support:
Schedule meetings, attend hearings (where permitted), take notes, and manage case diaries.
* Compliance:
Ensure all case management activities comply with the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Code of Conduct, Data Protection Act 2018, and confidentiality obligations.
* Team Support:
Work closely with solicitors, trainees, and administrative staff to ensure smooth case progression and high-quality service delivery.
Essential Skills & Experience
* Strong understanding of UK legal systems, court structures, and procedures.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office and case management systems.
* Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team.
Desirable Qualifications
* Law degree (LLB), Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL), or equivalent.
* Previous experience in a legal environment (private practice, public sector, or in-house).
* Knowledge of specific practice areas (e.g., civil litigation, family law, employment, property, or criminal law).
* Completion of or study towards the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) or CILEX qualification.
