Research Associate - Strand, London, WC2R 2LSAbout UsThe post is located within the Centre for Human and Applied Physiological Sciences, within the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine at King’s College London which is led by Professor Mathias Gautel and comprises five departments with a wide range of expertise and interests. Using a bench to bedside approach, the School aims to answer fundamental questions about biology in health and disease and apply this knowledge to the development of new and innovative clinical practise, alongside providing a rigorous academic programme for students. About the roleThis is a Research Associate position investigating how accurately pose estimation models can determine arm kinematics in stroke survivors. The project aims to develop a low cost solution to accurately measure arm movements after stroke. We are looking for a computer scientist with expertise in both front-end and back-end development. Specifically, the objectives of the post holder will be to develop a smartphone app to instruct, record and provide feedback of arm movement performance to clinicians and stroke survivors. In addition, they will develop the software back-end, performing analysis of recorded movements, using pose-estimation models and deploying the technology, with a view to compatibility for electronic health records. The post holder will have a background in Computer or Data Science. The successful applicant will be expected to be highly competent at programming (e.g. Python), experienced in human computer interaction, ideally with stroke survivors, and have expertise in working with Web Frameworks and DevOps. This is an on campus post working at either the Guy’s or Strand Campus of King’s College London. The position will be supervised by Dr Ulrike Hammerbeck, Dr Martin Chapman and Dr Timothy Neate. This is a full time (35 hours per week) post and you will be offered a fixed term contract for 7 months. There also is the possibiltity of a part time role (21 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract for 12 months. Research staff at King’s are entitled to at least 10 days per year (pro-rata) for professional development.
