Job Title: Electrical Systems Engineer Site Location: Staffordshire Permanent role Role Overview: The Electrical Systems Engineer will be responsible for leading and performing low and medium voltage power systems design activities up to MW scale, including requirements capture, system level design, operational definition, simulation and analysis on Marine, Energy or Industrial projects. This is a technical role and will involve working in a class leading multi-disciplinary team of engineers. Familiarity with Power Systems equipment is essential, and knowledge of class and regulatory rules is desirable. Job Responsibilities • Support project teams delivering power systems (including power generation and distribution, energy storage, protection, power conversion and utilisation, control and automation) ensuring the design meets customer and appropriate third-party requirements. • Produce detailed design studies including, but not limited to short circuit calculations, load flow, protection coordination, quality of power supply including harmonic analyses, common mode and EMC. • Requirement Engineering experience. • Systems Engineering V model knowledge • Produce requirements and functional specifications for systems and constituent products including generators, switchboards, transformers, power electronic converters, motors, energy storage systems, cabling etc. • Ensure the system design complies with the relevant health & safety and applicable international standards, defined project standards, or class society rules where applicable. • Comply with all company and customer health and safety regulations. Skills, Qualifications and Experience required: • Minimum of a Degree or equivalent in electrical engineering or higher, Masters or PhD in relevant field. • Chartered Engineer (or working to) and equivalent proven record of continuous professional development. • Extant Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), or the ability to obtain BPSS is required for this role. • Proficient with software simulation & design tools, MATLAB, Simulink essential. eTAP desirable. • Proficient with requirement management and simulation tools like DOORS, Enterprise Desirable: • Ability to undertake detailed power systems modelling, analysis and simulation of power electronic converter(s) and machine generation & drive systems and associated equipment, using industrial design tools such as: Matlab, Simulink or eTAP. • Ability to multi-task on a variety of projects to strict time scales, excellent communication skills, good report writing skills, well organised.
