We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Infrastructure Deployment Team Lead to deliver these initiatives successfully. The post holder will plan, coordinate, and drive technical delivery across multiple teams, ensuring smooth deployment and transition into operational service.

This is a pivotal role for a technically strong project leader who thrives on collaboration, accountability, and seeing complex work through from concept to completion.

Working closely with colleagues across ITS and the wider University, you will provide technical expertise, direction, and escalation support throughout project delivery. You will lead a team of Windows 11 Deployment Engineers, manage suppliers, and ensure compliance with University standards and security requirements. This is a campus-based role in York, with occasional travel to our London campus. This role is fixed-term for 18 months.

Key Responsibilities

1. As Infrastructure Deployment Team Lead, you will:
2. Lead and coordinate project teams, suppliers, and contractors to deliver high-quality outcomes aligned with University policies and standards.
3. Oversee installation, maintenance, and upgrade of infrastructure, end-user hardware, network, and AV systems.
4. Manage full lifecycle delivery of infrastructure projects, from design through to service transition, ensuring robust documentation and governance.
5. Engage stakeholders across the University, providing clear communication and regular progress updates.
6. Take responsibility for supplier management and financial oversight, monitoring performance against agreed KPIs.
7. Identify and mitigate risks, escalating issues where necessary.
8. Collaborate with the Security Operations Centre to ensure deployments meet security standards.
9. Provide leadership, coaching, and support to team members, promoting knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
10. Support operational needs during key events, which may include occasional out-of-hours work.

Key Skills and Experience

11. To succeed in this role, you will have:
12. Education to degree level or equivalent experience.
13. Technical ICT certifications such as Cisco (CCNA, CCNP) or Microsoft Certified (Azure, Windows Server).
14. Strong experience deploying Windows desktop environments using Microsoft System Management technologies.
15. Proven track record in project and supplier management for large-scale, complex IT projects.
16. Experience administering security, accounts, and permissions across on-prem, hybrid, and cloud systems.
17. Excellent planning, organisational, and communication skills, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.
18. Ability to lead teams, manage competing priorities, and deliver results under pressure.

This role involves manual handling of equipment and may require working at height or in confined spaces. Occasional evening or weekend work may be necessary to support key University activities. Some travel to our London campus and overnight stays may be required.
