About the Role: MED-EL is seeking a fall internship candidate as a Research Assistant Intern who will support our research department. The right candidate will have research experience and an interest in being exposed to the science of cochlear implants while also pursuing a degree focused in a relevant area. We expect a start date the first week of September 2025 and will work approximately 20 hours per week (can be adjusted based on course load). Primary Responsibilities: Assist with management of research participants: Assist Research Lab staff with scheduling of research participants. Assist with arranging accommodations for research participants. Collect behavioral data from research participants. Facilitate progress of a research study through: Assisting with project planning, organization, coordination, and managing a research protocol from study start up through study close out. Evaluating study progress, developing work plans, and allocating necessary resources to ensure study is managed based on timeline, scope of work, and study needs. Preparing status reports on project progress for members of the Research Laboratory Ensure the integrity of data, conclusions, presentations, etc. associated with research study. Additional tasks: Maintain a database of subject contacts who have agreed to participate in research. Arrang accommodations for visits by research participants to the Research Laboratory Assist with research participants during the data acquisition processes Ability to obtain quality data over the extended period of the research participant’s visit. Document research efforts Participate in the drafting of research protocols. Provide summary reports of studies, including test conditions, laboratory methods, and raw data. Position Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Speech & Hearing Sciences or similar related degree. Knowledge of Good Clinical Practices (GCPs) within Audiology Identified degree/diploma or equivalent work experience. Excellent oral and written communication skills (English) Literacy and familiarity with data management Excellent inter-personal and organizational skills IT (computer, internet, phone) literacy Professional demeanor, including the ability to liaise with engineers, scientists, audiologists, and research subjects. Enjoys a fast-paced and multi-disciplinary work environment. This position is located in Durham, NC. Relocation assistance is not provided.
