Job Description
Job responsibilities include the safe conduct of cardiopulmonary bypass and related techniques, with autonomous clinical decision making in challenging circumstances. The post holder will participate in on‑call duties and night shifts and contribute to training, service development, and research, while providing 24/7 care.
Responsibilities
* Clinical practice: deliver a 24/7 perfusion service, participate in on‑call rota, and support complex procedures including ECMO and ventricular assist devices; contribute to training and service development.
* Training and Development: develop skills required of a Clinical Perfusion Scientist and maintain training records; adhere to LLP policies; support re‑accreditation criteria.
* Communication and working relationships: communicate complex information effectively within a multidisciplinary team; provide support during stressful events and participate in de‑briefs when appropriate.
* Knowledge and Professional Practice: maintain 24/7 cover, register with relevant professional bodies, ensure patient‑focused practice, stay informed on best practices, supervise Trainee Perfusion Scientists.
* Analytical and Judgement Skills: monitor clinical information within guidelines; adapt to individual patient needs; develop reflective practice.
* Information and Resources: assist in maintaining ISO 9001:2015/2025 quality standards documentation and handle information per policies; complete electronic timesheets and expense claims.
* Financial and Physical Resources: use all perfusion equipment carefully; ensure equipment safety; maintain stock; complete paperwork and data entry.
* Health and Safety: follow health and safety regulations; complete mandatory training; use PPE; safely manage clinical waste; transfer patients on specialist devices; maintain a safe working environment; prevent infection spread.
* Confidentiality and Safeguarding: adhere to information governance policies; understand safeguarding of vulnerable adults.
Qualifications
* Essential: Fully accredited with the College of Clinical Perfusion Scientists of Great Britain & Ireland, or actively pursuing qualifications; full UK driving licence.
* Experience: Excellent communication skills; ability to work within and outside the department with credibility; knowledge of routine and specialised perfusion techniques.
