Job Description

Be the Future of Finance

At Thermo Fisher Scientific, everything we do is with one purpose: to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer. That starts with how we run our business. In FP&A, we don’t just report financials — we partner with teams across science, operations, and commercial strategy to drive better decisions, faster.

This role is designed for ambitious graduates ready to shape the future of finance. Based at our divisional headquarters in Birmingham, you’ll be part of a fast-moving, innovation-led team building the tools, insights, and automation that power smarter, faster decisions across our business.

We’re not looking for perfection — we’re looking for potential: analytical problem solvers with curiosity, grit, and the drive to build something better.

Your Mission

This isn’t about replacing spreadsheets. It’s about building the next generation of FP&A: dynamic, automated, and embedded in the way the business thinks.

In this role, you will:

* Pioneer automation and efficiency within the FP&A support function
* Create forward-looking tools that help our commercial finance and business partners answer the “why” behind the numbers
* Help position this team as a testbed for innovation — shaping what’s possible and creating scalable solutions for the wider organisation

What You’ll Work On (First 6–12 Months)

* Automate recurring reports using Power BI, Excel, and other analytics tools
* Support ad hoc analysis and visualisation of financial performance trends
* Build dashboards and models that help commercial teams understand and act on actuals
* Collaborate with finance business partners to turn complexity into clarity
* Ensure data consistency and integrity across systems and output

What You’ll Learn

* Apply modern tooling: Power BI, Python, SQL, Excel VBA, and embedded AI tools (Copilot, GPT, agents)
* Build scenario tools that make forecasting faster and more intuitive
* Understand P&L drivers and financial trade-offs in a real-world context
* Develop clear, compelling communication for senior stakeholders
* Solve high-impact questions with structure, logic, and creativity

What We’re Looking For

Education

* Bachelor’s degree (2:1 or above) in STEM, Economics, Finance, Business Analytics, or a related field

Experience

* Side projects, internships, or part-time work involving data, problem-solving, or commercial thinking are a plus — but attitude and potential matter most

Skills and Traits

* Curious and motivated by real-world impact
* Comfortable with numbers, structure, and tools — and eager to learn more
* Clear communicator who can summarise complexity in simple terms
* Organised, reliable, and driven by quality
* Exposure to tools like Power BI, SQL, Python, Excel, or AI is helpful — but not required

Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.

Why Join Us

You’ll join a global company of 90,000+ colleagues working to improve lives. In our finance function, you’ll be surrounded by people who care about growth — yours and the business’s. We’re collaborative, curious, and committed to building a better way of working.

You’ll be supported every step of the way: through mentorship, structured training, professional qualifications (ACCA/CIMA), and opportunities to stretch beyond your comfort zone.

Our ambition is simple: to help you become the kind of analyst that the future needs — fluent in tech, sharp in thought, and trusted by the business.
