Assist the Head Chef or Cook in preparing, serving, and cleaning to ensure nutritious meals and a safe, hygienic kitchen and dining environment for residents.
Main Responsibilities
Food Preparation & Service
*
Assist with basic food prep: chopping vegetables, sandwiches, salads, light cooking as directed by the cook or chef
*
Prepare and serve meals, drinks, and snacks during set mealtimes including breakfast trays
*
Help with special diet meals (e.g. diabetic, pureed, cultural or texture‑modified diets) under supervision Care Home
Kitchen & Dining Area Hygiene
*
Wash dishes, cores, utensils, trays, trolleys, pots and pans promptly after use; return equipment to storage
*
Undertake daily cleaning routines: wiping surfaces, sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning fridges, ovens, freezers, and serving areas
*
Immediately address spillages and hazards; ensure work surfaces and equipment are sanitized regularly
Stock & Inventory
*
Receive, check, and safely store deliveries, following stock control
*
Monitor supply levels and report shortages or faulty equipment to the chef or manager
Compliance & Training
*
Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and wear appropriate uniform/PPE as laid out by policy
*
Comply with food hygiene standards, Health & Safety, COSHH, and CQC regulations
*
Attend mandatory induction and refresher training sessions as required
Communication & Teamwork
*
Work collaboratively as part of the catering team and across other departments to support smooth mealtime routines
*
Maintain confidentiality around resident information and monitor for resident feedback or concerns relevant to meals or service standards
Skills & Experience
*
Basic experience in food prep, kitchen support, catering, or housekeeping roles preferred
*
Good communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work under direction in a team
*
Physical resilience: comfortable lifting, standing for periods, and performing routine kitchen tasks
*
Ability to follow hygiene, safety, and service procedures accurately
