Position Overview
We are seeking an Associate Practitioner to work within our Blood Sciences Department at NHS Dumfries and Galloway. The post holder will be based at Galloway Community Hospital in Stranraer and will collaborate closely with staff at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary, using modern laboratory technology to support primary and secondary care services in the Wigtownshire and Stewartry areas.
Employment type: Fixed‑term contract, 25 May 2026 – 22 February 2027.
Responsibilities
* Rotate through all laboratory areas, including Haematology Automation (FBC and Coagulation) and Biochemistry.
* Operate and maintain analytical equipment, following Departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
* Participate in lone working during extended hours and weekends as required.
* Support blood transfusion services by maintaining blood and blood product storage equipment and managing related stock‑management software.
* Adhere to the laboratory’s UKAS ISO15189 accreditation and BSQR compliance requirements.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Relevant laboratory experience, preferably within a clinical setting.
* Good knowledge of blood transfusion theory and guidelines.
* Excellent organisational and communication skills.
* Motivated, innovative, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
* Commitment to ongoing training and proficiency in analytical technologies.
* Requirement to obtain Standard Disclosure Clearance.
