An opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified and experienced Biomedical Scientist to join the Senior Biomedical Scientist team within York Microbiology.
The post holder must possess a thorough understanding of the technologies and methodologies relevant to Microbiology and demonstrate effective leadership and management capabilities, while working collaboratively to achieve shared goals.
The successful applicant will be expected to work full time and participate in the on call, early/late shift, weekend and Bank Holiday roster.
Interviews for this post will be held face to face with no remote option available.
Part time hours and Job share can be considered.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be expected to work within the existing Senior Biomedical Scientist team, supporting and deputising for the Chief Biomedical Scientists and the Head BMS.
The role will include, but is not exclusive to:
• Working collaboratively between work areas and networked laboratories.
• Providing effective leadership and management.
• Involvement in, and responsibility for, line management and HR processes to support the department.
• Providing operational support within the laboratory, as well as leading Microbiology bench sections and teams within the department
• Participating in the out of hours services including on-call shifts, early/late shifts, weekends and bank holidays.
• Supporting compliance with the QMS and organising the laboratory to ensure all daily tasks are successfully completed.
• Ensure oversight of external quality assurance for laboratory sections.

Education, Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
9. Registration with the HCPC.
10. IBMS Specialist Portfolio in related discipline or equivalent
11. BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science course (or alternative qualification) approved by the HCPC for registration.
12. MSc or equivalent in related discipline
Desirable criteria
13. Any relevant further qualifications, e.g. management qualifications
Experience and Knowledge Required
Essential criteria
14. Minimum 3 years’ experience at a BMS grade
Desirable criteria
15. Experience in a Microbiology laboratory offering a similar test repertoire
16. Supervisory / teaching experience
17. Specialist experience in a particular area
