University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust wishes to appoint an enthusiastic, forward thinking Trust Obstetrician & Gynaecologist with a special interest in maternal/foetal medicine. The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic team providing general and specialised obstetrics and gynaecology services to the local population of West Sussex. The post will be based at Worthing Hospital site.
The successful candidate will be supported by established consultants and members of the multidisciplinary team.
The post is available from October 2025 for a fixed term period of six months.
Main duties of the job
The responsibility of the post holder is to provide support in running Antenatal and Gynaecology clinics, Gynaecology theatres with a potential to expand skills in Obstetric Ultrasound scanning and pre-term birth clinics.
The successful candidate will have on-call commitments working one night shift a week and weekend days on call as per the middle grade rolling rota.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The job role involves a rotation of normal working days, a fixed weekly night shift and a rolling rota of weekend day on calls. The rolling rota will be available to the post holder in advance.
The clinical duties of the post include the following: Middle grade cover on labour ward, ward reviews, attendance in Antenatal and Gynaecology clinics, theatres and covering the Gynaecology emergency and early pregnancy service.
The post holder accepts that they will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation, where practicable, with their colleagues, both senior and junior.
It is an expectation that the post holder will:
• Attend mandatory training updates as required • Undertake training as necessary in line with the development of the post and as agreed with the line manager as part of the personal development process • Achieve and demonstrate agreed standards of personal and professional development within agreed timescales • Identify own learning needs and jointly plan training requirements with your line manager • Participate in the Trust’s appraisal process to discuss how your role will help deliver the best possible care to our patients and help to deliver any changes in service

Essential criteria
7. •Basic medical degree
8. •Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
9. •MRCOG part 2
10. •Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent
11. •Completion of the RCOG Basic Practical Skills course in Obstetrics and Gynaecology by time of appointment. No other equivalent qualification will be accepted (this includes RCS Basic Surgical skills courses)
12. •At least 24 months’ experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology as a middle grade by time of appointment
13. •Not previously resigned, been removed from, or relinquished a post or programme with resultant failure to gain the award of a FACD, except under extraordinary circumstances and on the production of evidence of satisfactory outcome from appropriate remediation

14. •Additional related qualifications, e.g. intercalated degree, BSc, BA, BMedSci or equivalent, MRCOG
