About the role
As a Mortgage Underwriter, you'll be responsible for making excellent lending decisions in line with our risk policy for new mortgages.
Day-to-day, you'll own and manage mortgage applications from receipt to the release of funds and carry out risk assessments. Using your knowledge and experience, you'll also challenge lending decisions, build great relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and manage your work according to service standards.
All of this is underpinned by an appreciation of the customer. You'll deliver fair outcomes for them, provide excellent service, and tailor your approach to customer needs. You'll be the first line of defense for any complaints and communicate lending decisions clearly and effectively with customers.
This is an exciting role where you can balance the needs of customers, intermediaries, and responsible lending daily.
Please Note: This role is mainly office-based. Hybrid working can be offered once fully competent in the role; however, you will be expected to be in the office 2-3 days a week. Full training will require full-time attendance at our Yorkshire Drive Bradford office.
About you
Experience as a Mortgage Underwriter is preferred, but not essential. If you have underwriting experience in other financial products, extensive mortgage knowledge, or customer service experience, we would love to hear from you.
You will also need:
* Great time management skills
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
* Analytical and methodical thinking, with curiosity to seek further information
* Strong decision-making skills for fair and consistent lending decisions
