Our local authority client is seeking an experienced Principal Transport Planner to join their busy West of London Transport Planning team. This is an excellent opportunity for an established professional to contribute to a range of high-profile projects focused on sustainable transport, development planning and urban mobility across Greater London.
You’ll be supporting the council’s vision to deliver efficient, safe and accessible transport solutions that promote active travel and reduce congestion.

Key Responsibilities
* Provide professional transport and highways advice on planning applications and development proposals.
* Review and prepare Transport Assessments, Statements, Travel Plans and Parking Strategies.
* Advise on sustainable transport, cycling safety, and parking standards, ensuring compliance with local and national policy.
* Manage a busy caseload and deliver work to tight statutory deadlines.
* Collaborate with developers, consultants, TfL and internal departments to secure effective and practical transport outcomes.
* Contribute to borough-wide transport and active travel initiatives, supporting carbon reduction and accessibility goals.
About You
* 5 years’ experience in transport planning (local authority or consultancy background).
* Demonstrable experience working Greater London or other high-traffic areas.
* Strong understanding of planning application processes and development control.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical advice clearly.
* Confident working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
* Degree (or equivalent experience) in Transport Planning, Geography, Urban Planning or related field – an engineering degree is not essential.
* Practical knowledge of parking standards, sustainable transport principles and cycling safety.
Working Arrangements
* Hybrid working: typically 1–2 days per week in the office.
