Portsmouth Water are delighted to have an opening for a Finance Assistant to join our exceptional Finance department for 12 months. As a Finance Assistant you will become an integral part of a collaborative and high-performing Finance team. In this varied role, you will support both accounts payable and receivable activities, helping to keep our financial operations running smoothly and efficiently. As the successful candidate, you will play a key part in accurately recording and managing financial transactions within our systems, while ensuring processes are delivered with precision and on time. Alongside this, you will build strong relationships across the business and with external partners, providing a high level of service and support that contributes to the overall success of the Finance function.
Key Responsibilities
* Accurately validate invoices against purchase orders, ensuring all trade invoices are issued correctly and on time
* Support the Finance Operations Manager with a variety of ad-hoc tasks, contributing to the smooth running of the team
* Maintain the purchase ledger and related control accounts, helping ensure financial accuracy and integrity
* Process invoices, credit notes, and payments efficiently and with great attention to detail
* Reconcile supplier statements, quickly identifying and resolving any discrepancies
* Prepare and issue customer invoices, ensuring a high standard of accuracy and service.
Skills, Qualifications & Competencies
Essential
* A genuine passion for numbers, with strong accuracy and confidence in working with figures
* Proven ability to process high volumes of potentially complex financial transactions
* Highly analytical, with exceptional attention to detail
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey information to a range of stakeholders
* A proactive problem-solver, confident in handling queries and resolving issues efficiently
* Highly adaptable, with excellent multi-tasking skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
* A commitment to demonstrating our core values of Excellence, Integrity and Future Focus
Desirable
* AAT qualification (or similar), current study towards a qualification, or relevant accounting experience would be advantageous but is not essential
