The Role and Department The Senior Finance Manager reports directly to the Head of Finance. The Senior Finance Manager will lead a direct team in preparing monthly management accounts and ensuring accurate financial postings within the remit, whilst providing continuous improvement to processes impacting on the efficiency and accuracy of financial data. The Senior Finance Manager will also have a critical role in collaborating and supporting the Finance Business Partner within their remit in preparing budgets and forecasts, having ownership of the accuracy of the budgeting software tool and the alignment of the actuals to the budgets and forecasts. The SFM will also have responsibility to assist with year-end processes and will handle internal/external audit requests and processes as directed. The Senior Finance Manager will ensure the development of the management accounting function, ensuring their teams are skilled and appropriately qualified with career progression and succession planning opportunities fully outlined. Your application should cover the following criteria Essential Criteria Qualifications/Experience 1. An accounting qualification such as ACCA, ACA, CIMA. 2. Experience of providing specialist management accounting advice and process guidance to a range of customers and colleagues at all levels, including more senior colleagues. 3. Experience of participating in internal or external networks to share and discuss good practice, develop strong and productive working relationships and positively influence the University's reputation. 4. Leading the development of innovative tools and processes to support management accounting accuracy and quality. 5. Track record of team management and development experience and/or an enhanced management qualification applied across a large service team or teams. 6. Experience of budgeting and forecasting preparation and subsequent monitoring and alignment of financial postings to budget and forecasting inputs. Skills/Abilities/Knowledge 7. Excellent spoken and written communication skills including the ability to develop effective working relationships, both internally and externally 8. Strong digital competence across a range of digital devices and apps including digital communication tools, Microsoft 365 applications, financial & non-financial business systems. 9. Committed to continuing professional development to maintain professional recognition. 10. Extensive knowledge and experience of ensuring compliance with regulatory and organisational policy and guidelines. 11. Ability to contribute to planning at operational and strategic levels. 12. Ability to solve problems and decide on and plan appropriate solutions.
