Why this role is important for CPI’s work
CPI has an exciting opportunity for a team leader to join its established and growing software team, supervising and coordinating a high‑performing technical group and leading on medium and large scale projects in HealthTech fields such as IVD, medical devices, wearables, sensor technologies, connectivity, and drug delivery devices. A proven track record of managing and leading software engineering teams within a regulated environment, particularly in the medical devices area, would be advantageous. The Team Leader will draw on a broad range of technical know‑how to provide carefully thought‑out advice and expertise to stakeholders, offering innovative solutions and contributing extensively to development and improvement activities.
The Role
* Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of software applications and systems.
* Ensure code quality and adherence to coding standards through regular code reviews and mentoring.
* Stay up to date on emerging technologies and best practices in software engineering and implement them within the team.
* Supervise the software team, ensuring delivery of departmental goals through appropriate delegation and providing feedback and motivation to team members, including first‑line management support and resource allocation.
* Contribute to a culture of continuous capability development through coaching, mentoring, and developing colleagues across the technology team and organisation.
* Formulate and present possible solution directions, issue advice, and build an internal reputation as a reliable and credible authority.
The person we are seeking
The successful candidate will be educated to a minimum of HNC or Foundation Degree level (or equivalent) in a Scientific/Engineering discipline and have significant industrial experience at a senior level. They must demonstrate significant, technical expertise in software development and evidence of complex technical problem solving. Experience supervising a small group or team within an operational environment and holding a supervisory or management qualification would be advantageous. Experience in design and development of software medical devices, knowledge of systems engineering V‑Model processes, and skills in systems engineering/integration in a commercial product development environment are also desirable.

Additional Information
This role requires a minimum of 2 days per week on site at Sedgefield. CPI is a UK‑based organisation. Commencement of employment is conditional on demonstrating right to work in the UK; sponsorship may be available.
