This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Health Care Assistant to join our well established nursing team. You will be working in our busy, friendly East Northants practice.
Main duties of the job
General treatment room duties including phlebotomy, vaccinations under PSD, dressings and wound care, ECGs, ear irrigation.

We are a well respected practice with over 13,500 patients, using EMIS Web. Focusing on patient centred care, our team of 8 GPs, 4 Nurse Practitioners, 6 Treatment Room Nurses is supported by our experienced team of administrators.
Job responsibilities
Thefollowing are the core responsibilities of the healthcare assistant. Theremay be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will bedependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
* - Vaccinations as appropriate to role (given under Patient Specific Direction).
* - Undertake wound care, cleansing, irrigating and assessing wounds, applying a variety of dressings using appropriate techniques.
* - Removal of staples and sutures
* - Undertake new patient health checks
* - Carry out baseline observations recording findings accurately
* - Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
* - Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics
* - Carry out BMI checks as directed
* - Act as a chaperone as required
* - Carry out ear irrigation
* - Carry out ECGs as requested
* - Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
* - Provide support during minor operations as required
* - Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
* - Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance withinfection control protocol
* - Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas andsharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy
* - Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
Secondary Responsibilities
Inaddition to the primary responsibilities, the healthcare assistant may be requested to:
* - Participate in practice audit as directed
* - Participate in local initiatives to enhance servicedelivery and patient care
* - Support and participate in shared learning within thepractice
* - Complete opening and closing procedures in accordancewith the duty rota
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Wound care
* Experience of working in a primary care or hospital setting
* Experience of working with the general public
* Experience of accurately recording clinical notes using EMIS Web.
* Competent in administering vaccinations
