We are seeking an exceptional academic with a demonstrable track record of innovating in curriculum and student experience to join our Department of Finance and Economics — part of a globally elite, triple‑accredited business school and recognised as Modern University of the Year 2026 by the Good University Guide.

About Us

Our finance and economics department is one of the largest and most vibrant in the UK, with over 2,000 students and more than 75 academic staff. Our triple accreditation places us in the top 1% of business schools worldwide — a mark of excellence in both education and research.

As a department that specialises in applied and research‑informed education, we are currently focused on:

* Delivering a refreshed portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
* Expanding into emerging and interdisciplinary areas aligned with our strategic priorities.
* Innovating in Learning, Teaching and Assessment to meet the evolving needs of students and employers (including the integration of AI and the development of future‑facing skills).

The Role

As Reader in Economics on our Education, Practice/Pedagogy and Citizenship (EPC) pathway, you will provide strategic and academic leadership for this growing subject area. You will lead a strong and well‑established existing team in delivering a portfolio of activities that align with University Education Strategy. You will:

* Shape and deliver a forward‑thinking vision for Economics within the department.
* Lead curriculum innovation and development across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
* Support and mentor academic staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and high performance.
* Drive stakeholder engagement to enhance the subject group connectivity to the external environment.
* Contribute to the senior leadership team, influencing and delivering on departmental strategy.

Who We’re Looking For

* A strong academic profile in Economics, ideally with expertise in areas such as Economic History, Macroeconomics, or Microeconomics.
* Experience of academic leadership and team management within higher education.
* A track record of curriculum development and pedagogic innovation resulting in positive demonstrable impact.
* The ability to build external networks and partnerships that enhance student outcomes and impact.
* A commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of academic life.

Why Join Us?

You’ll lead a dynamic, fast‑paced team that places student success and graduate outcomes at the heart of everything we do. Collaboration is central to our culture, providing you with the opportunity to influence and shape the future of Economics education within a globally recognised business school.
