Pathology Administration Officer (Microbiology)

The Microbiology Department is seeking to appoint an experienced and motivated administrator to provide high quality support to the Consultant Microbiologists. This role would be ideal for a dedicated and organised individual with experience in managing and prioritising their own workload. We are looking for excellent communication and interpersonal skills, someone who is confident in using Microsoft Office, with advanced keyboard skills with the ability to input and collect accurate information.


Main duties of the job

Liaise in a professional manner with colleagues, visitors and patients and undertake a wide spectrum of administrative duties

Provide support to Pathology staff who are undertaking research or quality improvement initiatives

Plan and organise Consultant and Departmental meetings, typing the agendas, and taking and typing meeting notes

Undertake reception duties acting as first contact for Pathology, answering telephone queries from staff and other outside agencies

Welsh Skills Desirable:This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn't mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn't 'fluency', just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health.

Job responsibilities

This is an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified person to join the Microbiology Department. You will provide administrative support to the Consultant Microbiologists and senior laboratory staff. Although based in Royal Glamorgan Hospital, you may be asked to travel to Prince Charles Hospital, as we have offices on both sites.

Person Specification


Qualifications and/or Knowledge

* Knowledge of clerical and administrative procedures and systems
* Typing qualification or experience to equivalency
* Knowledge of WPAS and WCP
* Knowledge of CTM procedures and medical terminology


Experience

* Previous experience in an administrative role.
* Experience of working in a busy environment.
* Ability to prioritise and manage own workload.
* Experience of working in a hospital environment.


Skills

* Advanced keyboard skills to input and collect accurate information.
* Excellent communication and telephone skills
* Ability to deal with staff at all levels.
* Welsh Language Skills (Level 3 and above/B2) are Desirable for this Role.
