Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated nurse to join the Oxfordshire Sexual Health team for 1 year. Secondments will be considered. We are looking for a Band 6 Sexual Health Nurse with experience in both GUM and contraception. Candidates with no GUM/contraception experience but a passion for the speciality will still be considered. If you do not meet the experience required you will be employed on a Band 5‑6 development role.
The Oxfordshire Sexual Health Service is a large, busy organisation offering comprehensive STI management and contraception to people attending outpatient services at Churchill Hospital in Oxford and clinics in Abingdon, Banbury, Bicester, Didcot, and Witney.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide STI testing and contraceptive services to clients of all ages from a diverse range of communities and backgrounds.
* Act as a defined point of contact for patients/carers for defined episodes/pathways of care, delivering specialist nursing advice and psychosocial support.
* Work collaboratively and in partnership with other health‑care professionals, offering advice to colleagues and contributing to shared decision‑making.
* Assess health and psychosocial needs of individual patients, provide appropriate education and support, and maintain adequate patient documentation to NMC requirements.
* Deliver expert nursing care in agreed practice settings as part of nursing/multidisciplinary teams.
* Act as advocate for individual patients and for the client group, and support clinical governance activities related to your area of practice.
* Contribute to the development and delivery of nurse‑led initiatives, evidence‑based care standards, and service improvement initiatives.
* Support clinical and management teams in the delivery of Trust and Directorate objectives.
Essential Qualifications & Requirements
* Band 6 level qualifications in sexual health nursing.
* Recognised qualification and recent experience in contraception and sexual health (or one of these with willingness to undertake further training).
* A flexible approach to work patterns, including late evenings, Saturday work (approximately 1 in 4) and dual‑site working.
* Valid UK driving licence with access to a car to commute between multiple sites.
* Team‑player, non‑judgemental, friendly, reliable, and able to work independently as a member of a multi‑disciplinary professional team.
