Clinical Freedom & Varied Caseload
You will have clinical freedom, a varied caseload, and the opportunity to shape your own clinical path through a certificate, specialism, or honing surgical skills. Our caseload includes routine neuterings, pyometra, lump removals, GI foreign bodies, dentistry. Endoscopy, dental X‑rays, and cardiac ultrasound services are available. If you have a particular interest, we would love to help you develop it further.
Flexible Rota Patterns
This part‑time position (up to 30 hours per week) ideally Monday‑Wednesday, with a flexible Saturday rota (6‑hour shift). Saturday time in lieu is returned in the following week. No out‑of‑hours work required.
Location & Facilities
Blackness Veterinary Surgery is based in the heart of Dundee. The practice is housed in a large, newly renovated building with two fully equipped operating theatres (piped oxygen), a dedicated imaging suite (X‑ray, top‑of‑the‑range ultrasound), a separate dental suite (dental X‑ray facilities), an endoscopy unit, and an in‑house laboratory. A large training room hosts team meetings and lunch‑and‑learn sessions.
Team Structure
The team consists of 7 veterinary surgeons, 7 registered veterinary nurses, 2 student veterinary nurses, 2 animal care assistants, and 7 receptionists. One vet and one RN are working towards certificates in exotics.
Community Engagement
We collaborate with local kennels, treat stray animals, and maintain longstanding relationships with Cat Protection and Guide Dogs. We support future veterinary professionals through links with SRUC colleges, helping train veterinary nurses and care assistants.
