We are seeking a motivated and proactive Pharmacy Technician to join our dynamic andforward-thinking team within a busy GP practice operating across three sites, (9-12 months fixed term contract to cover maternity leave). Overall Role
The Pharmacy Technician in General Practice acts as a vital link between patients, the clinical team, and the pharmacy services. They focus on:

Job responsibilities Clinical responsibilities of the Pharmacy Technician:
undertake patient facing and patientsupporting roles to ensure effective medicines use, through shared-decisionmaking conversations with patients;
carry out medicines optimisation tasksincluding effective medicine administration (e.g. checking inhaler technique),supporting medication reviews, and medicines reconciliation. Where required,utilise consultation skills to work in partnership with patients to ensure theyuse their medicines effectively;
support, medication reviews and medicines reconciliation for new patients andsynchronising medicines for patient transfers between care settings and linkingwith local community pharmacists.
provide specialist expertise, wherecompetent, to address both the public health and social care needs of patients,including lifestyle advice, service information, and help in tackling localhealth inequalities;
take a central role in the clinical aspectsof shared care protocols and liaising with specialist pharmacists for morecomplex patients;
support initiatives for antimicrobialstewardship to reduce inappropriate antibiotic prescribing
assist in the delivery of medicinesoptimisation and management incentive schemes and patient safety audits;
support the implementation of nationalprescribing policies and guidance within GP practices. This will be achievedthrough undertaking clinical audits (e.g. use of antibiotics), supporting qualityimprovement measures and contributing to the Quality and Outcomes Framework andenhanced services.
To promote high quality, cost-effectiveprescribing in primary care, supporting the specifications within the PCN DES,such as Structured Medication Reviews and Medicines Optimisation and others asthey commence and as determined by the PCN.
To support the functional role ofprescribing and medicines optimisation as a registered and qualified pharmacytechnician.
Specific operational duties, especially inemergency situations e.g. flu epidemics/pandemic (which involves managing thecentralised initial and ongoing allocation of antiviral medicines, vaccines.Ensuring correct storage conditions are maintained at all times, assuringmaximum patient benefit and safety).
Technical and Administrative responsibilities of the PharmacyTechnician:
work with the PCN multi-disciplinary team toensure efficient medicines optimisation, including implementing efficientordering and return processes, reducing wastage and producing MAR sheets whereneeded;
Support practice reception teams in sortingand streaming general prescription requests, so as to allow GPs and clinicalpharmacists to review the more clinically complex requests;
provide leadership for medicinesoptimisation systems, supporting with a range of services to get the best valuefrom medicines by encouraging and implementing Electronic Prescriptions, saferepeat prescribing systems, and timely monitoring and management of high-riskmedicines;
provide training and support on the legal,safe and secure handling of medicines
develop relationships with other pharmacytechnicians, pharmacists and members of the multi-disciplinary team to supportintegration of the pharmacy team across health and social care includingprimary care, community pharmacy, secondary care, and mental health
Person Specification Qualifications GCSE grade A-C English and Maths
NVQ3, BTEC in pharmaceutical science or equivalent
Registration with GPHC
General Practice Pharmacy Technician Medicines Optimisation programme or equivalent
Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, mature in outlook and flexible in approach to work with high professional standards and attention to detail.
Evidence of ability to be self-motivated, practice self-management including prioritising workload.
Ability to deliver high quality work to deadline
Evidence of commitment to CPD.
Experience of working as pharmacy technician in primary care
