Head of School - Intensive Care Medicine
The role of Head of School is to work with and support the NHS England Postgraduate Dean in leading the delivery of a wide range of functions, aligned to the NHS England mandate.
The Head of School is professionally and managerially accountable to the Postgraduate Dean. The role focuses on improving learner supervision, assessment, and experience, engaging faculty, and ensuring effective educational outcomes both now and in the future. The position is evolving to emphasize workforce transformation, developing multi-professional links, innovative curriculum delivery, and workforce well-being strategies.
Please note this is a 3-year secondment with the potential for extension up to a maximum of three years, subject to mutual agreement.
Main duties of the job
Support the Postgraduate Dean; work across health and social care sectors within a team to ensure education reflects changing service models, delivering an integrated workforce from diverse professional backgrounds.
The Head of School will lead the School and Education Providers in delivering the evolving curriculum within a changing service landscape.
While the primary focus is to lead and develop the Postgraduate School of Psychiatry, other senior clinicians within NHSE may have wider roles and projects as agreed with the Postgraduate Dean.

Job responsibilities
* Oversee School programme management with the operational PGMDE teams and advise the Postgraduate Dean.
* Manage the School structure and relevant meetings.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Primary clinical healthcare qualification
* Membership/Fellowship of a relevant College, Faculty, or professional body
* Work as an NHS Consultant in the NW Region
* Attendance at educational development courses (e.g., educator courses, Train the Trainer)
Experience
* Significant experience working with learners or doctors in training within an educational context
* Experience in clinical and educational leadership and managing a multi-professional team
* Proven track record of service and educational delivery
* Licence to Practise (for doctors)
* Active involvement in appraisal processes
* Understanding of developments involving relevant Colleges, professional bodies, NHS organizations, and regulators
* Knowledge of workforce transformation agenda
* Recent training and experience in recruitment, selection, and Equality and Diversity
* Knowledge of NHS structures, processes, and workforce issues
