Overview

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non‑clinical professions and roles. The Nuclear Medicine service is part of the Department of Clinical Physics & Bioengineering and provides a full range of diagnostic imaging, non‑imaging tests, theragnostics and radionuclide therapies across multiple major hospital sites. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team and will support the delivery and ongoing development of Nuclear Medicine services.


Duration, Location and Working Pattern

This is a pan‑Glasgow role with a base site at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and routine working across all Nuclear Medicine sites within the service. The position is 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00.


Key Responsibilities

* Provide specialist scientific, clinical and technical support to a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic Nuclear Medicine services, including SPECT/CT, PET/CT, nuclear cardiology and radionuclide therapies.
* Contribute to image analysis, interpretation and reporting as part of a multidisciplinary team, act on the duty physicist rota, and support safe and effective service delivery in a highly regulated clinical environment.
* Play an active role in radiation protection, quality assurance, equipment performance and clinical governance, ensuring compliance with IRR17, IR(ME)R and relevant Scottish regulations.
* Participate in research and development, teaching and training of staff and students up to MSc level, and support service improvement initiatives across the Board.


Knowledge, training, qualifications and experience required

* HCPC registered Clinical Scientist with specialist experience in Nuclear Medicine.
* Final‑year trainees on a formal Clinical Scientist training programme considered for appointment at Band 6 until HCPC registration is achieved.
* In‑depth knowledge of Nuclear Medicine procedures, instrumentation, quality assurance and radiation protection.
* Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to interpret complex clinical and technical information.
* Ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively within a large, complex multidisciplinary service.
* Experience of supporting, advising and working collaboratively with clinical, scientific and technical colleagues.
* Commitment to continuous professional development and delivery of safe, high‑quality patient‑focused care within NHSGGC.
