Location: Birmingham, B7 5QT
Hours: Full Time, 37.5 hours per week
Salary: £25,146 per annum
Overview
FareShare Midlands is the region’s largest food redistribution charity. We rescue surplus food and redistribute it to 650 local charities and community organisations, feeding 60,000 people every week. The Warehouse Operative‑Community Food Member Champion will play a key role in the distribution of food, ensuring safe and efficient operation of the warehouse and supporting our community food members.
Key Responsibilities
 * Undertake all warehouse duties ensuring effective, safe and efficient coordination and distribution of food.
 * Coordinate food stock from goods‑in to picking, dispatch, and stock rotation, driving vans and forklift trucks as required.
 * Manage collection schedules and liaise with the Member Services team to resolve day‑to‑day queries.
 * Maintain cleanliness, organization and safety of work areas inside and outside the warehouse.
 * Follow all H&S and Food Safety standards set by FareShare policies and procedures.
 * Drive van/forklift truck duties for timely delivery and collection of food, ensuring compliance standards.
 * Load and unload, sort deliveries, and carry out safe lifting and carrying.
 * Report van issues promptly to the Transport Department to minimise disruption.
 * Perform pre‑delivery to post‑delivery checks and procedures.
 * Lock up, park and secure vans and equipment after deliveries.
 * Collaborate with volunteer teams, ensuring shift duties are covered and volunteers receive quality guidance.
 * Support the Warehouse Manager, Volunteer Manager and wider staff in recruitment, training and development of volunteers, upholding equal opportunities.
 * Participate in end‑of‑day reviews and plan for the next day’s activities.
 * Maintain compliance with Health & Safety, Food Hygiene and related standards, including risk assessments.
 * Provide excellent customer care and communication with Community Food Members.
 * Log all food movements accurately in the electronic stock management system.
 * Handle depot administration, including report generation and correspondence with member groups.
 * Represent FareShare Midlands in networking, promotional activity, and relationship building with community food members, suppliers and other stakeholders.
 * Support a positive culture, reflecting FareShare values and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
Qualifications
 * Up‑to‑date Forklift truck and driving licence.
 * IT literacy, particularly Microsoft Outlook and Word.
 * Sound numeracy skills.
 * Food Safety Level 2 certification.
 * Knowledge of Food Safety and Health & Safety applicable to food distribution (or commitment to training).
