We’re representing a major UK tech-driven organisation seeking a Java Tech Lead to drive backend engineering excellence. This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll set technical direction, modernise tooling, and empower a talented squad to deliver high-quality solutions at pace.
The Role
You’ll lead engineers across design, build, test, and deployment of scalable applications. Expect to champion best practice, optimise DevEx, and collaborate closely with architecture and delivery teams to push innovation forward.
Tech & Tools
* Java with Maven/Spring Boot
* TypeScript
* REST APIs & WebSockets
* AWS Stack including EC2, ECS, Lambda, Fargate & CloudFormation/CDK
* CI/CD, DevOps Automation
What You’ll Do
* Design and deliver efficient, secure backend systems.
* Write clean, well-tested code aligned with modern frameworks.
* Lead engineers, set goals, and drive performance.
* Own SDLC and champion automation, CI/CD, and DevEx improvements.
* Support architecture decisions and solution evaluations.
* Prioritise technical debt and optimise costs using AWS best practices.
* Run demos, champion innovation, and deliver POCs.
Who You Are
* 8+ years’ experience in backend engineering.
* Deep expertise in Java and Spring Boot, plus TypeScript.
* Strong understanding of REST APIs, WebSockets & cloud-native engineering.
* Hands-on AWS experience and DevOps automation skills.
* Proven leadership in agile environments.
* Passionate about collaboration, coaching, and raising the engineering bar.
