Overview
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and driven candidate to the post of a Consultant in Infection to be part of our Microbiology service.
Key responsibilities
* Provide routine Clinical Microbiology service for Wirral University Teaching Hospital (WUTH) and Wirral primary care.
* Work with a team of 2 other consultants, 2 specialty doctors and 2 clinical scientists.
* Support sub‑specialty interests and provide valuable expertise into the infection services.
* Perform routine infection control activities, collaborating with the named Infection Control doctor/practitioner.
* Provide out‑of‑hours on‑call cover at a frequency of 1:8 for Countess of Chester NHS Foundation Trust and Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Trust.
* Actively manage results and provide advice to clinical teams; certain relevant serology/virology results will require consultant input and authorisation.
* Triage referrals to the Microbiology team electronically, enabling safe prioritisation of calls.
* Participate in antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) programmes, including daily critical care ward rounds, AMS rounds across the hospital and blood stream infection rounds.
* Contribute to multidisciplinary team (MDT) input for Prosthetic Joint Infections, Haematology, C. difficile, Endocarditis, Renal, Neonatal unit and the award‑winning OPAT service.
* Play an integral role in infection prevention and control (IPC) with all team members contributing.
Qualifications
* Fully registered with the GMC.
* Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists obtained by examination.
* Experience as a Microbiologist or newly qualified Infectious Diseases/Medical Microbiology doctor.
