Description Are you looking for an opportunity to join a friendly and supportive team in a high-profile role that offers excellent career development prospects and regular exposure to senior colleagues across government? This post will sit in the Energy Strategy and Markets Unit within the Energy & Climate Change Directorate. The Unit focuses on Scotland’s overall energy strategy, taking a strategic approach to UK Government-led reforms that are happening at present. You will be supporting policy and programme management. This will include providing official support and leading on Ministerial briefings, PQs, FMQs, MiCases, FOIs and EIRs, engaging with senior colleagues and special advisers as required. Responsibilities Supporting SG input the National Energy System Operator’s (NESO) Strategic Spatial Energy Plan and Regional Energy Strategic Plans. Engaging with key stakeholders and supporting wider work within the team such as the UK Government’s Review of Electricity Market Arrangements (REMA) as the need arises. Working with analytical colleagues to develop a robust evidence to inform policy approaches. Providing official support and leading on Ministerial briefings, PQs, FMQs, MiCases, FOIs and EIRs. Maintaining core briefs, monitoring and updating for key policy developments. Supporting the wider functions of the Energy Strategy and Markets Unit and Onshore Electricity Strategy and Consents Division. Qualifications Success Profile Success profiles are specific to each job and they include the mix of skills, experience and behaviours candidates will be assessed on. Technical / Professional Skills: Policy Context and Purpose - Level 2 Practitioner - Understand the policy process. Develop expertise within the policy area to operate credibly and effectively. Working with Ministers - Level 2 – Practitioner - Deliver effective internal communication. Write for different audiences and purposes, including scrutiny and Work effectively with ministers. Understand the options for providing policy advice, and how to challenge' Governance and Project Delivery - Level 2 Practitioner - Plan, monitor, and continuously improve policy delivery. If invited for further assessment, this will consist of an interview and Presentation. Assessments are scheduled for w/c 31 July 2025 however this may be subject to change. In the event of a tied interview/assessment score, merit order will be determined by score in Policy Context and Purpose criteria.
