Lead Engineer
Role: Lead Engineer at Ramsay Health Care UK – Full Time – 37.5 hours per week.
Location: Nottingham Woodthorpe Hospital.
Responsibilities
* Act as the primary day‑to‑day customer interface for engineering.
* Ensure planned preventative maintenance (PPM) is completed in accordance with standard operating procedures (MMS).
* Provide feedback to enable continuous improvement of planned maintenance and techniques, working toward a condition‑based maintenance regime.
* Supply feedback and direction to the Engineering Manager on the standard maintenance manual.
* Advise on health and safety, assist in delivering practical elements of fire systems training, and complete the fire risk assessment with external specialist providers.
* Respond to all reactive calls and escalated calls requiring specialist involvement.
* Ensure all statutory insurance inspections are undertaken and remedial tasks resolved within the cluster.
* Attend and support H&S or infection control meetings as requested by site.
* Maintain health & safety requirements and respond effectively to ad‑hoc customer requirements.
* Carry out portable appliance testing (PAT) at intervals defined by policy and risk assessment.
* Participate in on‑call out‑of‑hours cover for Woodthorpe (1 week in 3) and be available to work in any other Ramsay location to assist in engineering absence cover.
* Carry out spare part stock take when required and advise Engineering Regional Lead and Group Estates Manager on external contracts.
Decision Making Authority
* Prioritise breakdown against planned maintenance.
* Take part in arranging provision for on‑call service for Ramsay hospitals.
* Arrange out‑of‑hours work to complete service level in conjunction with Engineering Regional Lead.
* Work within company standards, guidelines, statutory requirements, and escalating failures.
* Authorise and sign off permit to works and use contractors in conjunction with Regional Lead.
* Attend call‑out requests.
Key Accountabilities
* Ensure all work is carried out safely and competently.
* Maintain local engineering responsibility for the site and within designated Ramsay sites.
* Plan and communicate with contractors and service engineers to minimise disruption to hospital services.
* Complete and file all engineering logs and paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
* Cover holidays and sickness of other engineering technicians.
What You’ll Bring With You
* Experience in line‑managing in a maintenance environment post‑apprenticeship or equivalent qualifications.
* Experience coordinating contractors and service engineers.
* City & Guilds Part 1/2, NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent in mechanical or electrical engineering.
* Mechanical or electrical apprenticeship preferred.
* Fire safety or fire risk assessment training desirable.
* Understanding of quality management, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement.
* Dual or multi‑skilled with core expertise preferably in electrical.
* Comprehensive knowledge of health and safety guidelines and applicable law.
* Knowledge of legionella prevention requirements in hospital buildings.
* Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication.
* Sound fault‑finding techniques.
* IT awareness and competence.
