The Opportunity:

The University of Edinburgh’s School of Economics is seeking to appoint outstanding candidates to faculty positions at the rank of Lecturer. Applicants from all fields of Economics are welcome, although we are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in macroeconomics and any field of applied economics. We are especially interested in candidates whose research connects with that of our current faculty in interesting ways.

Successful candidates will have a strong commitment to producing internationally excellent research and delivering high quality teaching that contributes to the development of our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and the learning experience of our students. Applicants should have, or be close to completing, a PhD in economics or related field, and have demonstrable potential to publish their research in leading refereed journals, to contribute to knowledge exchange activities and to secure research income. They will also undertake further management, teaching and administrative duties commensurate with the role.

We welcome applications from candidates available to commence employment with in-person teaching by January 2026.


Your Skills & Attributes for Success:

1. Have a PhD in Economics or be within six months of completion of a PhD.
2. Must be able to demonstrate an existing or developing record of research with potential for publication in leading peer-reviewed journals in economics.
3. Will have demonstrated the ability to make an outstanding contribution to the research activities and intellectual life of the School of Economics.
4. Have excellent oral and written communication skills.

Please note that the University of Edinburgh defines completion of a PhD as the submission of the corrected thesis following the candidate’s viva examination, or when the candidate receives confirmation that there are no corrections to address.
