Vacancy Description
As an apprentice you will be expected to have some knowledge of horses and the industry, whilst it is not expected for you to be able to complete the below duties alone or in their entirety at the beginning of your placement, it is expected that you have the aptitude, willingness and physical ability to learn them.
* Ensure with ensuring all horses receive the highest standard of daily care, including feeding, grooming, and general health monitoring
* Provide fresh water and high-quality forage, ensuring horses have access to an appropriate diet
* Monitor horses for signs of illness, injury, stress, or discomfort, reporting concerns immediately to the Yard Manager
* Carry out regular checks for lameness, wounds, or behavioural changes that may indicate underlying issues
* Assist in implementing enrichment activities to support mental stimulation and well-being
* Stable duties and yard maintenance
* Muck out stables daily, ensuring a clean, dry, and hygienic environment for all horses
* Provide fresh bedding and maintain appropriate stable conditions to prevent health issues
* Dispose of waste correctly and follow biosecurity protocols to minimise the risk of disease
If required and age applicable - use a quad bike adhering to any risk assessment(s) and PPE requirements to maintain arena and turnout areas once appropriate training is completed.
