The Role
As a Patient Catering Stores Assistant, you’ll be responsible for supporting the smooth running of the hospital’s chilled food storage and meal distribution areas. You’ll handle food deliveries, manage stock, and make sure ward meal trolleys are prepared accurately and on time.
Key Duties
Receive and safely store chilled and ambient food deliveries in line with food safety standards (HACCP).
Prepare and distribute ward trolleys according to daily order sheets and supervisor instructions.
Keep storage and chilled holding areas clean and organised, following COSHH and hygiene procedures.
Monitor stock levels and report shortages to the relevant supervisor or manager.
Maintain high standards of hygiene, cleanliness, and infection control.
Follow all Health & Safety and food safety policies.
Rotate stock effectively to reduce waste.
Assist in mixing, packing, and preparing food items for patient trolleys.
Work flexibly as part of a supportive team and cover colleagues when needed.
About You
Previous experience in catering, food handling, or stores work is desirable but not essential.
Good understanding of food hygiene and safe storage (training provided).
Strong attention to detail and ability to work to deadlines.
Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
Flexible to work occasional weekends when required.
