Overview
Avantor is seeking a dedicated, science-savvy Laboratory Coordinator to become a key part of our team in Cambridge. In this full-time, permanent role, you will oversee the daily operations of one laboratory, ensuring smooth workflow, managing inventory, and addressing challenges to maintain a high-performing lab environment. This position is not hands-on research and does not involve managing a team of associates.
Location: The Discovery Centre, Bio-Medical Campus, Cambridge. Working hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 - 17:00.
The Team
You will work alongside 22 Laboratory Coordinators who support operational efficiency in the laboratory, serve as the point of contact for scientists’ queries, and undertake projects related to equipment, services improvement, and space planning. This role is part of our Lab and Production Services department, supporting major pharmaceutical companies and laboratories worldwide in the Research and Development sector of the Life Sciences industry.
What We're Looking For
* Education: A bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline preferably or equivalent laboratory experience.
* Experience:
o Previous Laboratory Manager experience, or work in a high-activity laboratory as a coordinator
o Proven ability to partner with other teams and suppliers, delivering results in a matrix environment.
o Experience managing multiple internal and external partners/stakeholders.
o Excellent customer service skills and a collaborative work style.
o Knowledge of SHE requirements and GxP regulations.
o Proficiency with Microsoft Office
How You'll Thrive And Create An Impact
* Manage one laboratory's operations, serving as the primary contact for materials flow, facilities maintenance, equipment availability, and process optimisation
* Maintain laboratory operational efficiency by coordinating with facility maintenance suppliers and scheduling maintenance with minimal disruption
* Resolve queries such as broken equipment, out-of-stock consumables, and alternative product sourcing
* Lead continuous improvement projects focused on equipment, change control, and optimising people processes
* Investigate deviations from Service Level Agreements (SLAs) through root cause analysis and accurately report findings
