Overview
An exciting role has become available to lead the systems engineering development of a key motion control technology across multiple product lines to support the growth of the domain within a key customer.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
* Take ownership of technical delivery across several high-impact projects, spanning both existing and next-generation product lines.
* Serve as the primary technical interface with the customer, representing the engineering team in all technical discussions and decisions.
* Manage and track development progress using JIRA within an Agile framework, ensuring alignment with project goals.
* Maintain full technical accountability, proactively resolving issues through structured problem‑solving and cross‑functional collaboration.
Area of Responsibility
* Lead the technical delivery of a new suspension technology across multiple vehicle platforms.
* Own requirements engineering activities, including elicitation, analysis, decomposition, traceability, and coverage analysis.
* Define validation strategies and support execution, including creation of test cases and use of simulation environments within the client's specific toolchain.
* Represent the team and technology in cross‑functional forums, ensuring clear communication and alignment of requirements with stakeholders.
* Lead functional integration of the technology onto vehicle lines, including project planning and issue resolution.
* Drive the functional safety process, ensuring all documentation and requirements meet ISO 26262 standards.
* Collaborate with customer/client application and core development teams across chassis and electrical domains, ensuring adherence to systems engineering processes.
* Interface with customer/client cross-domain teams, including networks, infotainment, Car Configuration File, and external suppliers to deliver a cohesive solution.
* Ensure all deliverables meet customer milestones, maintaining high standards of quality and timeliness.
* Manage escalations with the Product Owner, leading resolution of delivery obstacles and ensuring continuity.
* Support the Product Owner in defining technical delivery scope for quarterly project planning.
* Report to the Delivery Manager, providing regular updates on progress, risks, and technical decisions.
* Assist the Delivery Manager with workload balancing and resource planning across project streams.
Education & Experience
* Automotive or Electrical Engineering Degree with an extensive years Industry Experience (Automotive preferred).
* Expert knowledge of Automotive Chassis / Motion Systems and associated features in the vertical motion domain (e.g., Roll Control Systems, Adaptive Damping, Switchable Air Springs, Fully Active Suspension) in either the controls or mechatronics domain, although strong candidates with relevant system experience from other industries such as aerospace will also be considered.
* Experience of delivering complex mechatronic systems from concept to production.
* Demonstratable experience of delivering complex projects to quality, cost and time.
* Knowledge of integrated suspension control and associated systems / features.
* Knowledge of vehicle dynamics particularly in the active systems domain.
* Experience of systems development and delivery through all stages of the engineering development 'V' cycle, including understanding of system principals.
* Background in systems engineering and requirement management, along with change management tools and processes, version control, control strategy documentation. (INCOSE accreditation is beneficial).
* Demonstrable experience in JIRA toolsets, including but not limited to Confluence and Lucid.
* Experience of leading the delivery of safety critical active control systems and associated software to ISO26262 standards.
* Expert level project management and reporting.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with strong influencing and engagement skills.
* High proficiency in issue resolution management, including both methodology and application e.g. 8D, Fishbone.
* Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
* Experience delivering complex integrated control systems.
* Experience in working with external companies delivering software components as part of a larger software product.
* Hands‑on vehicle testing in the active systems domain including subjective and objective test methods.
* Understanding of automotive networking, diagnostics and fault handling techniques, and related system development tools (CANalyzer, ASL, CANape, etc.).
* Previous experience in JLR and their technology/product delivery processes would be an advantage.
* Recognised industry driving qualifications e.g. JLR's Class 3 / 4PG etc.
