Job Overview
The Dorset Breast Screening Unit (DBSU) of the University Hospital Dorset Trust screens approximately 43,000 women per year as part of the National Health Service Breast Screening Programme. DBSU is fully digital and operates eight mammography units, including three mobile units and four tomosynthesis units.
Position
Band 6 mammographer (or Band 5 trainee progressing to Band 6). Training will be provided to achieve a postgraduate award in mammography if required.
Base Location
Cross Sites – Royal Bournemouth Hospital and Poole Hospital.
Responsibilities
* Perform screening mammography to the high standard required by the NHS Breast Screening Service on both mobile and static units.
* Provide specialist imaging and high‑quality service in assessment and symptomatic breast clinics at Poole, Royal Bournemouth, and Christchurch Hospitals.
* Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, contributing to the development of breast imaging services.
* Participate in research projects, teaching, and the continuous improvement of the service.
Qualifications & Experience
* Experienced mammographer or newly qualified radiographer passionate about breast imaging.
* Band 6 qualification in mammography or Band 5 trainee status with progression to Band 6 post‑qualification and probationary period.
* Commitment to advanced practice and service improvement.
