Job summary
ThePsychiatric liaison team is commissioned to a provide mental health servicewithin the Acute hospitals, across the Mid-Yorkshire acute trust; PinderfieldsGeneral Hospital, Dewsbury District Hospital and Pontefract General Infirmary.
The service provides timely assessments, adviceand intervention to those who present in mental health crisis within the acutetrust. Referrals are received from the emergency departments, acute inpatientwards and specialist departments.
The team provide a 24 hour liaison serviceacross all the Mid Yorkshire Trust sites, working on 12hour, 2 shift system,covering days and nights. All applicants must be able to undertake all shiftscovering these duties. Some flexibility will be essential to ensure servicedelivery is maintained.
The service offers assessment to any patient inmental health crisis, regardless of age, patients with pre-existing mentalhealth needs and complex co-morbidities.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the psychiatric liaison practitioner are working within the Mid-Yorkshire Acute trust sites A&E /inpatient wards and departments. Undertaking highly developed skilled assessments, screening and interventions for those who present with identified mental health crisis and co morbid mental health presentations.
The service provides training packages for the team across the Acute trust and delivering this is an expectation of the role.
Successful applicants will be expected to display a range of adaptive skills and leadership qualities, with excellent communication and assessment skills, a good working knowledge of Primary, Secondary and Third sector providers across the localities of Wakefield and North Kirklees.

Job responsibilities
To provide a psychiatric liaison service into Mid Yorkshire Hospitals Trust sites which will provide assessment, support, advice and training. To provide highly developed and skilled assessment, screening and interventions for a wide variety of Service Users in Acute Trust settings and to signpost and broker Service Users toward relevant and appropriate resources to meet their needs. To be a part of the 24 hour staff rota in order to ensure the service is accessible at all times, referrals are received and screened promptly and face to face assessment are undertaken within 1 hour of referral where urgent. To participate in the provision of staff supervision and professional development.
