The job itself

Sutton upon Derwent Church of England Primary School is a loving school family. We are federated with Bugthorpe Church of England Primary School and have staff that work across both sites. We share our Executive Headteacher, SENCo, Business Manager, ELSA, and Environmental Tutor (Gardening and Forest Schools Teacher). We work together as one to deliver a creative curriculum that inspires our pupils to 'follow their pathways and grow with confidence'.

Both schools received a 'Good' Ofsted Inspection in 2022. Sutton upon Derwent received a very positive SIAMS inspection report in February 2025. Both documents are available to read on our school website.

Our Federation: follow a shared curriculum, have staff meetings together on Microsoft Teams to share planning, resources, and best practices, work in Subject Leadership Teams across the Federation, share a school minibus for educational visits and class visits, and share policies and procedures. This collaborative work enables both pupils and adults to flourish in our small rural schools.

Our Class system: Class 1 (Nursery and Reception), Class 2 (Years 1 and 2), Class 3 (Years 3 and 4), and Class 4 (Years 5 and 6). This job is to be the General Teaching Assistant, supporting the delivery of Phonics, in our Class 2 setting at Sutton upon Derwent.

We are delighted to offer the following role in our school for September 2025.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and passionate General Teaching Assistant, who will support the Class Teacher with the delivery of Maths and English in the mornings.

This position will be based at Sutton upon Derwent CE Primary School on a fixed-term contract, initially for 1 year. It will be for 5 mornings per week, term-time only, from 9 am to 12 pm.

There is also an option to work additional hours as a Midday Supervisor on the days you work. This role involves supervising children during the midday break, requiring 5 hours per week, from 12 pm to 1 pm, during term time.

We can offer:

* Enthusiastic children who love learning.
* A vibrant, hardworking, and supportive staff team.
* Smaller than average class sizes, with a PAN of 15.
* High-quality teaching resources and a superb learning environment in a beautiful village location.

Interested candidates are encouraged to visit our website for further information, including virtual and drone tours. You are also welcome to arrange a visit to look around our school by contacting the School Office.

Applicants are asked to include the following information in their supporting statements:

* Your experience and background.
* Why you have chosen to apply for this post, specifically at Sutton upon Derwent.
* Your curriculum strengths, talents, interests, and expertise.
