Job Title: Consultant Psychiatrist
Service Line: Male PICU
Professionally Accountable to: Medical Director
Managerially Responsible to: Hospital Manager
Description: We are seeking an experienced full-time Consultant Psychiatrist who will work at Cygnet Hospital Sherwood and provide senior medical cover on Fern Ward, our 12 bed male PICU service. The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician and oversee the care of inpatients, with responsibility for auditing medical services to GMC standards and other professional guidelines. You will lead a multidisciplinary team and have opportunities to progress to Medical Director level through management schemes.
Cygnet Hospital Sherwood is a state-of-the-art PICU and Acute hospital for men, with a full MDT and rapid access to mental health services, including those requiring intensive care environments.

Responsibilities
* Lead on the provision of high quality care to the service users admitted to Fern Ward
* Act as a positive role model toward patients, families, visitors and staff
* Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team
* Assess referrals & undertake mental state examinations of service users
* Undertake appropriate investigations, diagnosis & treatment
* Conduct ward rounds, patient reviews & clinical audits
* Lead risk assessment, risk management & embed clinical governance
* Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals & managers’ hearings & attend hearings
* Liaise with the Ministry of Justice for transfer of patients and approval of leave
* Maintain patient records
* Maintain regular communications with the Site Medical Director and Hospital Manager
* Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, staff, directors and concerned bodies; maintain appropriate reports
* Attend and contribute to academic meetings and adhere to GMC/Department of Health/Royal College of Psychiatrists CPD standards
* Contribute to Telephone On-call rota
Qualifications & Requirements
* Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent) qualified
* Registered on the specialist register (CCT/CESR), Section 12 and AC Status
* Experienced & knowledgeable in the specialty
* Knowledgeable of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Practice
* Excellent communication skills and ability to document medical notes clearly
* Committed to continued professional development
* Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
* Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent

What we’re looking for
* We are looking for a fully GMC registered clinician with MBBS (or equivalent)
* Specialist registration (CCT/CESR), Section 12 and AC status
* A strong communicator able to interview, assess and treat patients and write clear medical notes
* Committed to ongoing professional development and able to work in a MDT
* MRCPsych or equivalent
