Main duties of the job

We are excited to welcome a dedicated Clinical Nurse Specialist to our team, someone who is passionate about providing exceptional care, advocating for patients, and staying up to date with the latest advancements in cystic fibrosis management.
In addition, this role involves collaboration with our bronchiectasis service, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to a new and growing service within specialist medicine.
This post is offered as a 12‑month secondment, providing an excellent opportunity for professional development while making a meaningful difference to patient care.
Job responsibilities
As a clinical nurse specialist, you will be responsible for the day‑to‑day care for people with cystic fibrosis and the provision of specialist nursing advice.
You will practice autonomously as a core member of the multidisciplinary team and demonstrate high‑level clinical skills caring for inpatient, outpatient and community‑based patients.
Key tasks include assessment during and on completion of a course of intravenous antibiotics, port flushes, lung function testing and blood tests.
You will need excellent communication and interpersonal skills to network across organisational and professional boundaries.
Demonstrate flexibility, the ability to adapt to change and work autonomously within the multidisciplinary team.
You should have a proven track record in acute care and demonstrate effective leadership/managerial skills to prioritise and deliver agreed objectives within the service.
The service operates from 09:00‑17:00 Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays) and the successful candidate would usually be expected to work four days 08:00‑18:00.
You will need access to a car or the ability to travel for community visits and remote clinics across the Wessex region.
This is a challenging and rewarding role where full support will be given to develop new skills both clinically and professionally.
Person specification – qualifications, knowledge and experience
* Registered nurse on the relevant part of the NMC register
* Degree qualification or equivalent 120 credits at L6
* Post‑registration qualification within the area of speciality or equivalent experience
* Completion of all Band 5 (preceptorship) competencies
* Evidence of supporting/ managing a range of learners in practice
* Evidence of supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
* Extensive post‑registration experience within specialist area
* Registered on MSc Pathway – completion of HTPA competencies
* Counselling qualification
* Palliative care course
* IT training

Depending on experience £39,959 to £48,117 per annum, pro‑rate.
