Description of Job

JOB PURPOSE

The purpose of this role is to lead, develop, and grow our youth ministry by building strong, supportive relationships with young people, both within our church family and in the wider community. You will inspire young people to discover and deepen their personal relationship with Christ, while helping them recognise their dignity, worth, and value to God. This will include promoting their emotional, spiritual, and physical wellbeing in a safe, welcoming, and collaborative environment.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1.Leading and developing youth programmes

Design, lead, and oversee discipleship groups, youth clubs, special events, and volunteer teams, ensuring all activities are engaging, culturally relevant, and effectively communicate the Christian message while maintaining safe and effective communication with young people and stakeholders.

Foster a culture of youth discipleship by modeling Christian living, mentoring young people, nurturing their spiritual growth by enabling them to understand the biblical story and encountering the Holy Spirit, learning how this engagement with God relates to their daily lives as apprentices of Jesus, and developing emerging leaders through guidance and prayer.

3.Developing outreach programmes for local youth

Build relationships and trust with young people beyond the church by partnering with local organisations and schools to extend support and outreach in the wider community.

Actively pursuing personal spiritual growth and professional development, regularly reflecting on and adapting practices to better serve young people and the church community.

5.Safeguarding and inclusion

Promote a strong safeguarding culture and ensure all youth activities are safe, inclusive, and accessible so that young people feel welcomed and included, particularly any young people with additional needs, by equipping volunteers and maintaining robust procedures

6.Administration

Ensure that all administrative requirements for the youth work in the Church are in place and kept up to date. Oversee the youth work budget and manage your work area.

7.Contributing to the whole Church

Participate fully as a staff team member, working and praying together to seek God’s direction as we develop church strategy and implement the vision and mission of the Church.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

We are looking for a spiritually mature and resilient Christian leader to join our team, someone who brings energy, enthusiasm, and emotional stability. You will be an approachable, compassionate, and flexible person with a servant heart, who enjoys working collaboratively and is a supportive team player, comfortable following guidance as we work together towards a shared vision.

Essential experience, skills and gifts

* Experience of youth leadership and ministry sufficient to hold responsibility in a small to medium sized church context and to take our youth ministry to the next level.
* Experience of enabling others and growing disciples, with a track record of identifying, encouraging and developing others in leadership.
* Ability to develop and communicate a vision for youth ministry in a church environment with experience of growing young disciples and leading sensitive and safe worship and prayer ministry with young people.
* Ability to actively engage with young people from different backgrounds and cultures in a safe and inclusive manner.
* A confident leader, skilled at building and managing volunteers, encouraging and releasing the gifts of others, able to organise, recruit, delegate, and co-ordinate. A ‘completer-finisher’ able to see things through.
* An engaging, theologically informed communicator, able to train, teach, encourage, and inspire.
* A reflective practitioner, prayerfully attentive to the impact of their actions and always seeking to learn and improve their work and approach as a result.
* A thoughtful planner with an ability to take in a range of information, think things through logically, and plan strategically for the future.
* Spiritual maturity and proven experience of putting faith into practice.

Spiritual Life and Theological Conviction

* A mature and growing disciple of Jesus Christ, committed to their own spiritual formation and devoted to growing in prayer and spiritual disciplines, eager to know Christ more and to grow in grace, obedience and Christlikeness.
* A leader passionate about engaging deeply with scripture and committed to an ongoing experience of the renewing work of the Holy Spirit.
* A passion for Jesus’ church and committed to enabling others so that the church grows as a missional community of disciples who worship God with their whole lives.
* An intentionality about mission and making Christ known to others.
* Evangelical, charismatic and orthodox in theology and ethics with a gracious heart to facilitate greater freedom in the Holy Spirit in worship, prayer and word.
