Freshwater Ecologist (Analysis and Reporting team) – 32097
We are looking for dedicated Freshwater Ecologists to help deliver essential ecological monitoring programmes across the Thames Area. This role is based at our laboratory in Wallingford and involves aquatic ecological surveying, species identification, data analysis, and incident response.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct field surveys of aquatic plants, macroinvertebrates, algae, fish, and freshwater habitat.
* Operate boats and other field equipment to collect samples.
* Analyse macroinvertebrate samples to mixed taxon level, including species identification, and identify algae.
* Monitor, record and interpret data sets, and write reports to inform partners and support regulatory decisions.
* Participate in pollution, drought and flood incident response.
* Engage in flexible working arrangements, including working from home when appropriate.
Required Experience and Skills
* Ecology or a related degree with relevant freshwater experience.
* Proficiency in freshwater species identification, microscopy, dichotomous keys and field survey methods.
* Strong data management, interpretation and reporting skills.
* Valid UK driving licence.
* Commitment to health and safety, particularly in water environments.
