Job Introduction

The West of England Mayoral Combined Authority is seeking to appoint a Head of Strategic Investments and Planning who will shape the Investment function and lead the creation and implementation of overarching investment strategies, ensuring investments align with overall business objectives and maintaining the bridge between strategy and execution, focusing on maximising returns while managing risk for sustainable growth.


Key Responsibilities

* Act as the organisational authority for the identification and principal advisor to the Director of Finance, Investment and Commercial on the deployment and delivery of investment opportunities, planning arrangements and performance of a balanced portfolio aligned to the Mayor’s agenda, devolution progression, Integrated Settlement readiness and wider organisational priorities.
* Provide clear strategic direction, pace and assurance across investment initiatives, ensuring alignment with corporate priorities and robust governance arrangements are in place.
* Manage and oversee external investment managers, leading mandate design, fee negotiations and ongoing performance reviews.
* Produce and present high‑quality investment reporting and insights to senior leadership and relevant committees.
* Build and lead a skilled team of Investment professionals.


Qualifications

Are you someone who has extensive strategic investment management and planning industry experience with the ability to effectively invest public financial resources aligned to long‑term goals?


Salary

The salary for this role is £91,319 - £97,032. This is the full‑time equivalent salary, and will be pro‑rata for part‑time. We advertise salary ranges for job roles, with new appointments for external candidates typically starting at the lowest salary point. In exceptional cases, where higher skill levels or experience are applicable, the salary point may be adjusted to secure the best candidate. This approach allows for potential year‑on‑year salary increases, offering progression and appropriate rewards to employees.
