Job Description We are seeking a Finance Manager to join our Defence Digital team in a fast-paced and varied role, providing a wide range of corporate finance services. You will support delivery across planning, in-year budget management, financial governance, investment appraisal, and reporting for the New Style of Information Technology (NSoIT) programme – a critical programme delivering Information and Communication Services (ICS) to deployed Defence forces across all operational environments. As the Finance Manager, you will lead a small finance team and operate as a key member of a Service Executive area responsible for supporting live operations and vital Five Eyes capability. You will work collaboratively with project, commercial, and operational stakeholders on complex business cases and high-value procurement activities. This is a high-impact role, offering exposure to Category A programmes and strategic defence priorities. Key Responsibilities Lead the delivery of in-year budgeting and forecasting, coordinating monthly submissions and management information for Assistant Head and Deputy Head review. Support the production of long-term financial planning, providing insight on risk, assumptions, and investment options. Maintain robust accounts through effective General Ledger management, project accounting, asset and inventory tracking, ensuring full compliance with MOD policy and NAO standards. Prepare and support financial accounting returns and contribute to continuous improvement, including reviewing financial statements and audit file preparation. Produce and review business cases, including affordability analysis, VFM assessments, and financial concurrence within delegated authority; support IAC submissions and liaise with stakeholders. Lead and develop a small finance team to meet individual and organisational objectives, supporting the delivery of Defence Digital outputs. Analyse and review complex cost models to guide investment decisions and long-term planning, ensuring models meet scrutiny standards and are audit-ready. Person specification To Be Successful In This Role You Must Have: Proven experience in a financial management role, ideally within a large-scale programme environment. Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and reporting. Experience in business case development and investment appraisal. Familiarity with financial governance, including audit and compliance processes. Ability to interpret and analyse complex financial data, models, and cost structures. Effective communicator with strong stakeholder engagement skills across technical and non-technical audiences. Leadership experience with the ability to develop and manage a small team.
