What will you be doing: Barclays has set a target to facilitate £1 trillion of Sustainable and Transition Financing between 2023 and the end of 2030. Additionally, as part of its climate strategy Barclays is committed to reducing its financed emissions in line with the goals and timelines of Paris.The role holder will coordinate with lawyers across the AMER / UK /EMEA / APAC regions providing legal advisory and transaction oversight services supporting: The development and implementation of the IB’s Sustainable Finance strategy The implementation within the IB of Barclays’ strategy to reduce its financed emissions, including in relation to management of targets and client engagement strategy The implementation of sustainability laws, rules and regulations and development and implementation of Barclays policies and procedures to support sustainability within the IB including in relation to climate, nature, biodiversity and human rights. The role holder will report to the Global Head of Investment Banking Legal and also be accountable to the Head of Legal, Public Policy and Corporate Responsibility (PPCR).The role holder will work in partnership with the PPCR Legal team and co-ordinate with the Barclays’ Sustainability and ESG (S&ESG) where relevant group. The role holder will be responsible for managing legal risks to the IB Sustainable Finance business by providing accurate, useful and timely advice. Key Accountabilities Theroleholderwillbeaccountablefor coordinating legal coverage in the IB for sustainability-related issues, in partnership with PPCR Legal where relevant, including: Green Bonds, Sustainability-Linked Bonds, Social Bonds, Green Loans, Sustainability-Linked Loans, Social Loans, Sustainable and ESG ECM and M&A transactions Legal advisory services in connection with IB transaction execution Potential new businesses areas such as Transition Finance, Carbon Markets and Sustainable Project Finance Participating in the Legal Sustainable Finance Practice Group in developing a SF Legal Centre of Excellence, including knowledge library, training and upskilling Managing transactions within Sustainable Finance Framework and Transition Finance Framework Supporting Sustainable Finance product development and review including the navigation of Barclays’ ESG governance process to launch products to market, including participation certain committees and governance forums Supporting IB SF Team on reputation risk escalation forums Advising on the development, implementation and application of sustainability related policies and procedures in the IB, including, assessing potential transactions, advising on due diligence and supporting escalations under those polices Supporting on the development and implementation of client strategies designed to manage client-related sustainability risk such as the Client Transition Framework Leading training content development and cohort management based on market updates and trends and working in partnership with the relevant Legal and business teams Advising on sustainability risk governance, working alongside relevant colleagues Working with PPCR Legal to support on regulatory advocacy and regulatory guidance from the US, UK, EU and APAC Regulators (including FCA, SEC, ESMA, HKMA, MAS, RBI, JFSA, ASIC) on sustainability issues directly impacting the IB Supporting the development of an ESG and Sustainable Finance transaction process mapping and managing sustainability related law, rules and regulations within the IB What we’re looking for: Senior UK/US qualified solicitor/attorney with in-house investment banking experience Extensive experience of Sustainable Finance (ideally across US, UK/EU, APAC) In depth knowledge and understanding of the global sustainability legal and regulatory landscape, with proven ability to navigate and advise on the implementation of complex and overlapping requirements within a global bank.
