Job Title: Teaching Assistant

Leader Education are recruiting a Teaching Assistant to join an alternative provision in Gateshead.
This role is supporting pupils aged 5-16 with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviours.
This school provides a safe, supportive environment for students who have been permanently excluded from mainstream education, with a strong focus on reintegration wherever possible.
The goal is to help young people develop the confidence and skills needed to thrive in a mainstream setting when they are ready.
Previous experience is necessary.
The normal working pattern is Monday-Friday 8:30 until 16:30 and is a long-term position.
The successful Teaching Assistant will have:
A current DBS that is on the update system, or a willingness to obtain one
Previous experience with challenging behaviour or SEMH needs
The ability to implement de-escalation strategies and behaviour management techniques
Empathy, patience and understanding when supporting pupils with complex needs
The expertise to support teachers in the classroom and assist with lesson preparation
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with pupils, colleagues, parents and other professionals
Adaptability and initiative to accommodate for various learning type and abilities
