The Role

We are recruiting for an Approved Workshop Engineer - Engines to assist the Engine Workshop Team Leader in the safety, regulatory compliance and performance of Engine Maintenance activities, essential to the effective delivery of customer contractual requirements. Aircraft Maintenance is highly regulated and safety, quality and regulatory compliance are the first priority. The Approved Workshop Engineer - Engines must drive a culture of safety first ahead of schedule, with the highest level of safety and regulatory compliance across all applicable areas. Operational activities are based around customer requirements; preparedness to work additional hours to deliver a successful maintenance business is essential.


Key Responsibilities

* Safety first. Operate at Draken Europe in accordance with SHE standards and procedures.
* Identify where the SHE standards and procedures apply to appointed operations/tasks and apply the safe systems of work identified.
* Apply countermeasures identified in applicable risk assessments to appointed operations/tasks.
* Certification of tasks within the scope of the company authorisation held.
* Maintain Draken & customer engines in accordance with manufacturers and Draken’s maintenance procedures.
* Investigate and repair faults reported or found on engines.
* Carry out on-wing engine support when requested at base and possibly detached locations.
* Ensure engine work pack documentation is accurately maintained and progressed during engine maintenance activities.
* Maintain and promote workshop cleanliness standards.
* Ensure all tasks are completed in accordance with current Departmental and Company Safety & Quality standards and procedures.
* Perform the strip, clean, inspection, build & test of engines as directed by the workshop Team Leader.
* Communicate well and liaise with related Departments (Engineering Control, Line & Base Maintenance).
* Promote a safety, legislative and cost-awareness culture.
* Support a continuous improvement philosophy within the business.
* Assist with audits and quality assurance issues.
* Assist in conducting monthly workplace inspections and report/rectify any findings.
* Assist the Team Leader with assessment and closure of audit findings, SMS assessments/improvements, root cause investigations and departmental improvement ideas.
* Assist in the development of the engine workshop maintenance team.
* Encourage effective incident reporting and improvement of the SMS.
* Responsible for effective tool control.
* Ensure cleanliness and tidiness of the facility, equipment, tooling and employee facilities to a high standard.
* Ensure company values involving staff and development practices are in place.
* Other tasks as set by the Team Leader within the capabilities of the individual and required for daily engineering department running.


Experience / Skills / Qualifications


Personal Skills/Abilities

* Good technical English (written and spoken) and basic mathematics.
* Sound knowledge of regulatory requirements related to aircraft and aircraft component maintenance activities.
* Ability to work with and use precision measuring tools.
* Sound knowledge of working to tight tolerances and high engineering finishing standards.
* Team-oriented with proven communication skills.
* Customer-focused with exceptional personal and communication skills.
* Self-motivated, confident and assertive.
* Demonstrated ability to work within and adhere to organisational values.
* Medically fit to perform daily engineering duties including detached working.
* Willingness to work flexible hours to assist in aircraft recoveries.


Educational Vocational Qualifications - Previous Experience Within Aircraft Maintenance

* Engineering apprenticeship trained, preferably within aviation.
* Formal mechanical engineering qualification, preferably BTEC level 3 or above.
* Proven track record of over 3 years within an aviation business or equivalent.
* Experience of working in an engine/gas turbine production, maintenance or workshop environment.
* Proven ability to work to time pressure and deadlines.
* Understanding or evidence of working within a continuous improvement project.
* IT literacy with previous experience of the MS Office suite.
* Security cleared to meet current UK and ITAR requirements in support of the business.
* Human Factors knowledge.
