Job Title: Manager - Communications Department: Marketing & Communications Reports To: Director - Marketing & Communications Hours per week: 37 hours Duration: Up to 12 months fixed term Directly Responsible For: Coordinator - Communications, Officer - PR Overall team / department purpose - The Marketing & Communications team is responsible for ensuring that our business has in place a dynamic, proactive and engaging marketing and communications strategy which protects and enhances our businesses reputation, communicates effectively with customers and colleagues and promotes business products and services. - The team act as ambassadors for the brand and with all associated activities being planned, managed and delivered to fully support our business Vision, Values and Corporate Plan. Key role priorities - This role is our business lead for strategic and operational management of internal communications activities including programmes and events and is the businesses media relations expert. - The role is our business lead for strategic and operational management of external PR management, including crisis response, planned PR and thought leadership. - The holder is responsible for pro-actively and effectively planning, managing, coordinating, and delivering internal and external communications to fully support the Vision, Values, Corporate Plan and Communications Strategy of our business. - The role involves the protection and development of our business reputation and profile with key internal and external audiences whilst most effectively managing our businesses Communications function. Key working relationships - The role line manages the Communications Team, including a Coordinator - Communications and our in-house Officer - PR and is required to provide appropriate guidance and support to the role holders. - The role holder works closely with our Executive Directors and Directors Team, ghost writing and creating high level content and thought leadership activity and opportunities. - The role holder is also required to work proactively and collaboratively with colleagues across the Marketing & Communications team and to have effective working relationships with managers and colleagues across our business more generally. - The holder is required to liaise effectively with a range of external agencies and other key stakeholders to ensure the most effective approaches to communications and public relations are taken. Main duties & responsibilities - Support the Director - Marketing and Communications to develop and deliver an exceptional service to our internal and external customers. - Pro-actively contribute to the ongoing review and development of our businesses Marketing and Communications Strategy, taking a lead on the development and implementation of communications plans for key issues and activity. - Act as our businesses lead strategic and operational manager for internal communications programmes, events and activity. - Produce quarterly performance reports for our board to showcase PR and Communication coverage and success. - In conjunction with other members of the Marketing and Communications team, be responsible for the production of key publications and collateral for customers. - Deliver an effective and impactful PR plan as part of the overarching Communications Strategy. - Plan, research and deliver considered, well-written and relevant copy for the full range of communications materials for print and on-line, for both colleagues and customers. - Develop and effectively deliver our businesses tone of voice, guiding colleagues to do the same. - Operate as a highly effective project manager for the full spectrum of communications tools, both for hard copy and digital, effectively planning, coordinating and delivering quality work. - Manage all internal events, including our all colleague annual conferences and regular office based and digital events. - Manage our businesses online internal presence and external PR presence. Produce content for the full spectrum of websites/intranet, apps, social media, podcasts, blogs and other appropriate digital communications. - Personally, and through any appointed external agencies, develop and maintain excellent working relationships with key papers, publications, broadcast and digital channels. - Research, write and place accurate and compelling stories and award entries, in line with our business vision, Values and corporate objectives. - Personally, and through any appointed external agencies, coordinate and manage media opportunities, including press conferences and photo calls. - Personally, and through any appointed external agencies, pro-actively, sensitively and carefully handle any negative enquiries or stories about our business. - Pro-actively seek out and share communications and PR best practice and trends to help shape effective communications. - Establish, develop and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues, providing pro-active advice, guidance and support in relation to communications and PR matters. - Produce relevant management information regarding the reputation of our business and its communications activity. - Ensure that all activity is delivered within approved policies, procedures and budgets. - Liaise most effectively with any appointed external agencies or advisors in the delivery of certain functions, projects or jobs. - Effectively represent our business, attending meetings, conferences and events as necessary. - Complete any other tasks as commensurate with the level and nature of the posts as delegated by the role’s line manager. Key measures of success - Development and delivery of an innovative, forward thinking strategic and operational approach to delivering and exceptional Communications service. - Effective implementation of external and internal communications related activities, supported by ongoing reporting and development and making most effective use of allocated budget. - Effective PR and thought leadership strategy and activity that increases brand awareness, protects and enhances our position as a great housing provider and supports our Corporate Plan ambitions. - Effective management of external support agencies, ensuring value for money and effective service delivery.
